Study for the monument of Zar Alexander II (Bozzetto per il monumento allo Zar Alessandro II))
The subject depicted is the Zar Alexander II (1818-1881), well known for initiating a process of political, social and economic transformation in Russia. The plaster is a study for the monument to Alexander II. Troubetzkoy participated in the competition, with the bronze (56 x 63 x 19 cm) signed and dated Paul Troubetzkoy 1910, with the Valsuani foundry mark, which is today kept at the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg. The board eventually declined the sculpture, and Troubetzkoy, saddened, left for Jasnaja Poliana (Gavrilovich, 2017).
