Portrait of Teresa Junck Garbagnati (Ritratto di Teresa Junck Garbagnati)

Wife of Benedetto Junck, Teresa Garbagnati (Milan 1857-1928) shared the role of cultural patron and host of musical evenings with her husband. Rebora (2017) describes Troubetzkoy’s style as “a crude and unprecedented stylization of the subject’s features, constructing an elegance and highlighting her troubled expressions”. The so-called “sprezzature” with great pictorialism, remind of Ranzoni’s portraiture. It is also very clear the similarity with one of the figures in the group of the Omnibus Impressions by Medardo Rosso for the National Exhibition of Venice in 1887. The present plaster could be dated between 1888-1899.
