Portrait of Prince A.V. Meščerskijn (Ritratto del principe A.V. Meščerskij)
The prince Alessandro Vasilevič Meščerskij (1822-1900) was governor and leader of the nobility in the provinces of Moscow and Poltava between 1869-1884. A bronze cast of the same subject was acquired by the Tretyakov Gallery of Moscow in 1920. According to Gavrilovich (2017) the portrait in Moscow presents on its base the signature and date: Paul Troubetzkoy Milano 1895. It is likely that the present bust is from the same date as the bust in the Tretyakov Gallery’s Collection. Another bronze cast of the same subject is kept instead at the Russian State Museum in St. Petersburg.
