Description Provenance Exhibitions Bibliography

For his third exhibition in America, Troubetzkoy had the opportunity to sculpt many members of noble families, mostly entrepreneurs and bankers. In addition to the portrait of Mrs Harold McCormick (cfr. Cat. Mostra Verbania Pallanza 1990 p. 206 n. 165), the sculptor received many commissions from the Crane family. The subjects depicted in the plaster are the children of Richard Teller Jr and Florence Higinbotham, Florence and Cornelius. A brief article on the Chicago Record Herald of the 7th of April 1912 mentions other portraits by Troubetzkoy for the Crane family: Charles Richard Crane, the children’s uncle and of Frances Crane, his wife (Frezzotti, 2017).
