Description Provenance Exhibitions Bibliography

Lady Constance Stewart Richardson was a famous athlete, suffragette and “interpretative” dancer.  After her first show in London in 1910 (causing a scandal by dancing barefoot on stage) she danced in America, in 1913, 1915 and 1917. After her last tournee’ in 1919, Lady Richardson went back to England and taught dance to the middle class. The present plaster had been modelled by Troubetzkoy in America during Richardson’s second tournee’. The figure of the dancer is to be considered one of the most relevant artworks by Troubetzkoy. For this reason, the present model has many replicas in bronze. The Museo del Paesaggio also has a red wax version of the model (inv. T 265).
