Troubetzkoy met the Spanish painter Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida (1863-1923) in Paris, when attending the universal exhibition of 1900. The friendship between the two artists is testified by a series of letters kept at the Sorolla Archive. In 1909 Sorolla had obtained a huge success at the New York Hispanic Society. The 20th of October of the same year, Troubetzkoy writes to Sorolla with the desire to organize at Huntington an exhibition. After some weeks, the 22nd of December,Troubetzkoy tells Sorolla that he sent a sculpture of Mm.lle Svirsky as a gift, and reminds Sorolla to gift him with one of his paintings.The Exhibition of Troubetzkoy effectively took place at the Hispanic Society of New York in 1911, where Troubetzkoy’s portrait by Sorolla had also been exhibited (Frezzotti, 2017).
