Description Provenance Exhibitions Bibliography

The subject depicted is Giovanni Boldini (1842-1931). The bust of Boldini had been exhibited for the first time at the Secessione in Rome in 1913, but the version in plaster was likely to have been done in Paris in 1912, when Troubetzkoy exhibited at the French portrait exhibition of the XIX century. It is very likely that the dating of the present plaster is 1912-1913, as there are great similarities in style with Boldini’s self portrait, aged 69, in 1911 (Ferrara, Museo Boldini).
