Description Provenance Exhibitions Bibliography

The bust shows Alessandro Cuzzi (1849-1895) professor at the University of Sassari, at the clinic of Modena and of Pavia. The 17th of October 1899 a bust was dedicated to him at the clinic of Pavia. The magazine “La Voce” of 20th October 1899 describes the marble tombstone, decorated with golden letters and bronze palm trees, with the bust sculpted by Troubetzkoy. The funds which weren’t spent by the council of Pavia were sent to the council of Suna, in order to sculpt a tombstone in memory of Cuzzi, in his home.Eventually the monument was delivered to the council of Suna on the 28th of August 1910. A replica of the bust, executed in 1899 for the clinic of Pavia, still exists but the location is unknown. According to Donatella Gavrilovich (2017) the present plaster could be dated around 1895, at the time of Cuzzi’s death or 1899 when the monument was unveiled in Pavia. Another copy of the same plaster (with green patina) is kept in Suna’s cemetery.
