Description Provenance Exhibitions Bibliography

The portrait of Auguste Rodin was carried out by Troubetzkoy between the end of 1905 and the start of 1906, when he had just moved to Paris and Rodin moved to his Meudon Studio. Rodin had visited the Universal Exhibition of Paris in 1900, noticing Troubetzkoy’s sculptures which, at the time, had won the Grand Prix. The friendship between the two sculptors lasted for years.  The influence of Rodin on Troubetzkoy is visible through the shape and lighting of the sculpture (Frezzotti, 2017).
